Story

Hello folks,

As many of you are aware, we lost the biggest and brighest part of our family on June 21st 2017, our beloved Mammy Sue. To say we were, or better still, are devastated would be the greatest of understatements. An aspect of life that we will never come to terms with and the biggest of all to deal with.

Sue was the heart and soul of our family and always had a smile, a hug or a word of wisdom for everyone. Understandably we were horrified when she was diagnosed with the dreaded 'C' in June 2014. Not to be deterred, she took it on the chin and soldiered on with her head held high like she always did. Rightly so, after months of Chemo and Radiotherapy, a horrific operation leaving a foot long scar, she came out the other end smiling.

However again in 2016, she received the soul destroying news that the cancer she thought was beaten, had moved in small spots to her lung. Once again, with a smile on her face, she dusted herself down and marched towards the operating table. It didn't take a wrinkle out of her and she laughed and joked in recovery as everyone else around her looked on in admiration.

Recovery at home was different for Mammy. She struggled with the previous implications that months of Chemotherapy and radiotherapy has on a persons body. She vomited and slept and slept and vomited. It was sore on her body and sore as a family to watch. The blockage in her bowel still didn't stop her roar across thd Bog to dear friends or laugh and joke with grandchildren.

Sadly and suddenly, we lost our mother as she fell asleep peacefully in Daddy's arms. It is a shock that everyone is still coming to terms with and emotions that are still very raw.

Strangely enough, everytime Mammy left the friends of Cancer centre in Belfast she always left with a smile. Hence the reason for this page. Their love, guidance and comfort gave Mammy solace in times of difficulty.  A care that we believe is second to none. Collectively we have decided to raise funds and awareness for the Centre. Their tremendous work does not go unnoticed.
