The sanctuary gives a permanent home to over 550 farm animals rescued from neglect, cruelty, starvation and abandonment. We campaign peacefully to improve conditions for farm animals and conditions in livestock markets. At the Sanctuary farm animals are for life and not for slaughter.

Story

I started as a volunteer at the sanctuary when I was 15, prior to attending University to study to become a vet. 20 years later, I have the privilege of being the sanctuary vet. Janet Taylor (founder and owner), has always been an inspiration to me. She has given up the last 25 years of her life to give 24 hour care to these wonderful sentient beings, and to campaign to improve their welfare, both in the UK and overseas.

During my time working here, I have watched them take in some horrific cases of cruelty and neglect, and seen Jan and the staff work tirelessly to nurse them, feed them, make them comfortable. Not all of them make it, but those who do grow, and become strong, develop their own personality and quirks, and are able to live out their lives peacefully.
