SALTY SEA DOG TRIATHLONS · 7 July 2018

We’re leading the fight for a future where all young minds are supported and empowered, whatever the challenges. We’re here to make sure children and young people get the best possible mental health support and have the resilience to overcome life’s difficulties. Join our fight.

Story

As those of you close to us will know, Rosie and I have both had people very close to us suffer from mental health issues. At the end of April we both made the decision that we wanted to do something to help raise awareness around young people's emotional wellbeing and mental health and so we decided to sign up to do a triathlon.

After some research we came across the YoungMinds charity. YoungMinds are leading the fight for a future where all young minds are supported and empowered, whatever the challenges. They're here to make sure children and young adults get the best possible mental health support to help them to overcome life’s difficulties. Please take a minute to check them out at https://youngminds.org.uk/about-us/who-we-are/

YoungMinds are celebrating their 25th anniversary this year and so we are ambitiously going to attempt to raise £2,500 - please help us as much as you can! Other than our own personal experiences, here are a couple of facts that show why a charity like YoungMinds needs our support:

  • 1 in 10 young people have a mental health problem
  • 80,000 children and young people suffer from severe depression
  • 1 in 12 young people self harm

The money you help us raise can be used for all sorts of different things:

  • £10 means that YoungMinds can help 1,000 young people understand their mental health medication, through their HeadMeds website
  • £20 means YoungMinds can provide urgent support to ten parents when they have nowhere else to turn, through their Parents Helpline
  • £50 means YoungMinds can guide a young person in sharing their experience of mental health with politicians or in the media

The spotlight is on young people’s mental health like never before. But if you need help, it’s still much too hard to find. Please help us in raising awareness in whatever way you can.
