First of all id like to say thanks for taking the time to
view my page. I’m josh, a 23-year-old guy living in Rotherham, South Yorkshire.
A couple of months ago I posted a status on facebook saying, “if this status gets 100 likes I will get a tattoo described only through interpretive dance.” What started as a joke soon made me realise that people were definitely on board, so it got me thinking, how I could use this idea to aid a good cause. It was at this point that I decided to use the tattoo as a sponsored event raising money for charity.
7 years ago my grandmother was diagnosed with vascular dementia following a stroke. Since then her condition has deteriorated to the point
where now she retains very few of her memories and requires constant care. Many people know about dementia, but it is impossible to know truly how bad it can be without witnessing it first hand. A person
can literally lose everything that makes them who they are. It can be even more harmful on those left to care for them. There really is no worse a fear for someone caring for a loved one with dementia, than the moment where they see you clear as day and don’t recognise you. It is absolutely fundamental that people with dementia are receiving all of the care possible. For my mum caring for my grandmother is more than a full time job. You never know when her emotions will take a terrifying turn for the worse. Her sleep patterns are erratic meaning my mum’s are too by default. My mum lives with my grandmother now, as
this is essential. My family and me do all we can to help where possible with caring for my nan, but even still we struggle at the best of times. The respect we have for this woman is so strong that there isn’t a thing we wouldn’t do for her, for as long as we are able. Being one of the most important people in my life, there really was no charity more personal to me than dementia UK.
If I receive my target goal through your funding I promise
to get a tattoo described only through interpretive dance. This means
I will have no idea what the design will be until it’s done.
After speaking to several artists, Westley Smith From Wiseguys inc tattoo studio in Rotherham has agreed to do the tattoo as well as interpret the design from the dance I perform. Also I’d just like to add that I know absolutely nothing about interpretive dance and I have never had a tattoo. Just saying. :P
