Story
I have a physical disability called Cerebral Palsy and I have a visual impairment and I use an electric wheelchair. With the help of Whizz-Kidz I have been able to get access to so many great opportunities. I am really excited to be able to do an event that both challenges me and raises money for the much needed services the charity provides. This includes the Ambassador Clubs where young people with mobility related disabilities can meet up, socialise, learn new skills, gain knowledge of campaigning and importantly, just be young people together.
The opportunities through Whizz-Kidz have had a life-changing impact on my confidence and my ability to try new things and to do be independent. A few years ago I was very afraid to try new physical experiences, and I really didn't expect to be scaling the climbing wall when I attended Camp Whizz-Kidz. In addition, it's all helped me to figure out what I want to do in life, and this September I start my degree and the route to becoming an Advocate.
Whizz-Kidz do more than just the Ambassador Clubs and the Camp, they also provide much needed wheelchairs and mobility aids that aren't available through the NHS, enabling children and young people to pursue much more in life and to really reach their potential.
If you want more information on what they do and how they do it, check out their website. If you want to know more about the impact of the charity on my life, drop me a message.
Parallel London is the world's first accessible fun run. It doesn't matter if people walk it, run it, push it, roll it or do it in a chicken costume, the track is flat, the wheel's are fat and everyone can join in and be equal. It's not a drive in the park for me, I don't last long before the fatigue sets in and I'm driving like I've had a few too many beers. Perhaps I should have bumpers fitted before hand!! So please sponsor me to play ping ball along the route as I bump into everyone and everything, and raise money for the most amazing charity I've come across yet.
It's set to be a WHEELY good experience....
