Prudential RideLondon-Surrey 100 · 4 August 2019

We help over 500 young people a year overcome the effects of depression, anxiety, family breakdown, bullying or having been the victim of abuse, including sexual abuse. We are a local charity that has served Watford, Hemel Hempstead, Rickmansworth and Borehamwood for the past 40 years.

Story

I will be taking part in this event with my Dad too, as he has always been so supportive of me it’ll be great to complete such a challenge together.

I am taking part in the Prudential RideLondon-Surrey 100 because it’s going to be a real challenge for me. I am trying to demonstrate that no matter how challenging life may feel, it is always possible to come out on top and be an achiever. I am determined to rise to this challenge and succeed; I hope that you’ll support me in doing so.

A little over two years ago I tried to take my own life, this isn’t something I am proud of, nor is it something to be ashamed of. Everybody has times that they need help and need someone to reach out to - that was my time and I felt like there was nobody who would understand me, my situation and the circumstances leading to what happened. This is going to be my way to help others and remind them that there is always a listening ear and a person who cares. Like many of my family, friends, and healthcare professionals have done for me since April 2017.

It goes without saying that good mental health is paramount for every child, teenager, and young person, no matter their background. Unfortunately, the pressures that young people are facing is on an extraordinary rise. According to suicide.org(August 2018), every 100 minutes a teenager takes their own life. Suicide is the third-leading cause of death for young people ages 15-24, and about 20% of all teens experience depression before they reach adulthood.

You will make a massive difference to the lives of hundreds of young people and help to keep such a vital and significant community service alive: http://signpostcounselling.co.uk/
