Great Bristol Run 2023 · 14 May 2023 ·

FareShare South West rescues high-quality food from the food industry and shares it with charities and schools across the south west, turning an environmental problem into lasting social good. Our supportive volunteering and employability programmes offer local people the opportunity to thrive.

Story

I was torn when asked last week if I would do the Great Bristol Run in May.

Firstly panic. I have not run at all since contracting the very long, exhausting Long Covid in 2020. I'm pretty sure I'm over LC now but then I haven't tried running races for almost two decades. My running confidence is low and I've now got weeks not months to train! And to cap it off, I will not be able to slink unseen into the jogging crowd for, if I raise £400 I have pledged to be dressed as a giant fruit. The fruit or veg of your choice!*

However...

I'm all in when it comes to raising money for the wonderful FareShare South West. I joined the team in January as a 'passion' career move, horrified that one in four children in Bristol are struggling to get enough to eat, when all the while, tonnes of tasty edible food is unsustainably being thrown away. I love that this charity tackles both issues and delivers food for three million meals per year. I know from first-hand experience, that those meals provide dignity, sustenance and routes out of poverty in times of crisis. And I will push my sluggish banana-clad body around every mile knowing that each £1 I raise will fill four empty plates.

£1000 target = 4000 meals for struggling people in our neighbourhoods.

So of course I said yes but I need a boost please. And more importantly, so do the millions of people in our region living in poverty. Please sponsor me my lovelies x

*You can influence my running outfit by sponsoring and voting in the comments box

(1) Orange, (2) Banana, (3) Peas, (4) Strawberry, (5) Wildcard fruit or veg

On the 12th  I will count up which costume has the most ££ behind it and be condemned to that! If you have already sponsored and want to vote, please do message me your choice.
