Hypo Hounds is a registered Assistance Dog Charity training Diabetic Alert Assistance dogs to sniff out the changes of their Type 1 Diabetic partners blood sugar levels. Through early intervention we are preventing hospital admissions, preventing children collapsing, and improving their lives.

Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

Hypo Hounds is a Diabetic Alert Assistance Dog Charity. They train dogs to detect and alert to the dangerous changes in their Type 1 Diabetic owner’s blood sugars. By alerting their owners or their families to these changes in blood sugars, Hypo Hounds can help to prevent potentially life-threatening hypoglycaemic attacks.

Hypo Hounds worked closely with me to train my pet labradoodle Asha, to be a fully qualified Hypo Hound.

The last couple of years, with the support of Asha, my risk of experiencing a hypo has been dramatically reduced as well as having a positive impact on the mental well being of my family. It’s amazing how Asha can smell when my blood sugars are dropping and will alert me to this change by nudging me with her nose!

Please give as much, or as little as you can, I (and they) would be so grateful! It can take between 12 and 18 months and can cost the charity £25,000 to train just one puppy in the Hypo Hounds program. The charity provides life-long training and support at the cost of £1,000 a year.
