Story

Hello my fellow human beings! I am so glad that this description box doesn't have a text limit! Thank you for visiting my fundraising page!

I have always wanted to take part in the Great South Run here in Portsmouth. I have never been much of a runner and have never took an interest in running until 2 years ago when I met Kamil, a PhD student who regularly competes in triathlons and mountain races. It was through him that I was inspired to take up running. If he can do something as intense as a PhD and run and train regularly, then so can I! My current running ability is 5km run/walk without getting too exhausted, but I would like to build my stamina up for the 10 mile (16km) GSR race. I hope that my fundraising page could be an encouragement for those who are thinking of taking up running as I bring you along my running journey. :)

Without the support of people like you, Médecins Sans Frontières/Doctors Without Borders (MSF) would not be able to provide medical care in over 60 countries worldwide. As a pharmacist, I am passionate about providing quality healthcare wherever I work - and one day I would like to work in humanitarian aid with organisations like MSF.

Here are a few facts on how your donation could have an impact on MSF’s work overseas:

£3 – provides pain relief. MSF doctors and nurses use ibuprofen to treat patients experiencing fever, inflammation or pain. £3 buys 312 ibuprofen tablets.
£10 – protects children against measles. Measles is a highly infectious disease that can be deadly, particularly for children under the age of five.
£10 pays for measles vaccines for 21 children.
£15 – helps children recover from malnutrition. Ready-to-use therapeutic food (RUTF) has revolutionised the treatment of severe malnutrition. £15 buys enough RUTF to treat two malnourished children.
£30 – helps prevent the spread of infection. Every operation carried out by an MSF surgeon requires clean linen and gowns to help prevent the spread of infection. £30 provides clean linen and gowns for two surgical operations.
£65 – helps move an injured person to safety. Foldable stretchers are a fast and safe way of getting an injured person away from danger. £65 buys a foldable stretcher.
£73 – treats people with malaria. People with the mosquito-transmitted disease can be cured by a three day course of artemisinin combination therapy. £73 could treat up to 130 people with malaria.
£95 – treats people living with HIV/AIDS. Lifesaving antiretroviral (ARV) drugs enable people living with HIV/AIDS to fight off the virus and live a normal life. £95 provides a year’s supply of antiretroviral drugs for one person.
£188 – provides the tools for lifesaving surgery. A basic surgical kit of 25 instruments enables an MSF surgeon to carry out surgery in a crisis zone. £188 buys a basic surgical kit.

Thank you for reading thus far. Please donate as much or as little as your heart wants to, there is absolutely no obligation and any amount is appreciated. If you want to give me a free high five to show encouragement whilst I'm on my run(s), that would be a huge encouragement to me too! Share the cause and the fun together! :)
