Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

Joy of Living is a charity project that unites over 100 leading lights in the design community to galvanise support for Maggie's Cancer Caring Centres. I have set the challenge to a cross-section of new and established UK designers to create a desirable artwork that expresses the Joy of Living - all starting from a simple sheet of A4 graph paper. The signed works are being exhibited and on sale in London's space for art, culture and creative exchange, Somerset House, from 15-21 March 2011. Each artwork is priced at £250 and my aim is to raise £25,000 from sales, with the remaining £25,000 coming from donations on this page.

Maggie's is a charity that helps people to build a life beyond cancer, helping to manage the impact of a diagnosis of cancer and to live with hope and determination. After a very personal journey as I supported my mother through her 6-year battle with cancer, I vowed to contribute in some way to mankind's fight against this disease.

Artworks have been submitted by a stellar list of design talent including Terence Conran, Tom Dixon, Barber Osgerby, Sebastian Bergne, John Pawson, Tomoko Azumi, Daniel Eatock, Fredrikson Stallard, Martino Gamper, Rob Ryan, Stuart Haygarth, Michael Marriott, Max Lamb and many more.

If you would like to contribute to this cause, you can purchase artworks directly from Somerset House from 15-21 March (a handful of artworks are previewed on this page). Alternatively, give a cash donation on this page.

Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving – they’ll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they’ll send your money directly to the charity and make sure Gift Aid is reclaimed on every eligible donation by a UK taxpayer. So it’s the most efficient way to donate - I raise more, whilst saving time and cutting costs for the charity.

Charity founder Maggie Keswick Jencks once said, "Above all what matters is not to lose the joy of living in the fear of dying," and this statement has inspired the design challenge and Joy of Living project. So please dig deep and donate now.

With best wishes to you,

Max Fraser
