Every day in the UK six people will be diagnosed with MND, and six people will die from the disease. It leaves people locked in a failing body, unable to walk, talk and eventually breathe. MND acts fast - a third of those diagnosed will die within a year, over half within two years. There is no cure.  It really is the cruellest thing imaginable to happen to any family.

Despite these shocking stats every day I am amazed by the courage, selflessness, determination and generosity of people living with MND and their families. So many choose to dedicate their precious time to raising funds and awareness to help others.

I hate running with a passion, but unlike so many people with MND, I can run. So after years of peer pressure I've finally signed up for my first (and last!) proper running event, the Manchester 10K. I know 10k isnt a huge distance but for me it's a struggle, every step after about 3k is painful! But, if I can raise a few pennies to help in the fight against MND it's worth it.
