Hilary's page

I met Hilary in 1979, and shortly after that she moved into the bedsits where I was living. When I bought my own house, she came to live in it with me. Our friendship went on growing, and we supported each other through failed relationships, fandoms (various), sickness and operations, career changes and my continued studies. When I moved to Bicester, Hilary came too. She was clever, witty and humorous and made many friends, both in person and via the internet.
Hilary was diagnosed with primary peritoneal cancer in July 2011. She underwent every treatment offered with dignity and good cheer, and wrote a much-praised blog for the Macmillan Cancer site. Hilary was admitted to Sobell House in November 2012 with a life expectancy of two weeks. She fought on, her determination and genuine consideration for others making her many new friends. She died peacefully in her sleep. The staff couldn't have been more caring and efficient, and I know Hilary would approve of this choice of charity for donations in her memory.
