Thanks for taking your time to visit our JustGiving page.
We believe that with your help we can make the world a better place!
My name is Judyta Jankowska-Szmul and I am an eye doctor working in the Royal Eye Unit, Kingston Hospital NHS Foundation Trust. As a Retina Fellow I work mainly in Retina and AMD clinics now, but over the last two years I have been supporting Eye Casualty, Paediatrics, Cataract and Glaucoma Clinics as well.
Adam Szmul, my husband, is a postdoctoral researcher working at the Centre for Medical Image Computing at University College London, where he currently investigates radiation induced lung damage for lung cancer patients. He has completed his DPhil at the University of Oxford, where he mainly focused on medical image analysis, particularly in lung cancer applications.
We have signed up for the Prudential Ride London – Surrey 2019 via Kingston Hospital Charity and we represent the Royal Eye Unit. We are taking part in the 100- mile cycling challenge to help fund the Royal Eye Unit extension. Our ‘Judyta & Adam’ mini team is going for the minimum target of 1000 pounds. Kingston Hospital Charity is aiming to raise in excess of 2.5 million pounds as part of this extension works, so we need all the help we can get !!!
The Royal Eye Unit provides comprehensive outpatient ophthalmic services and eye surgery within a purpose built Eye Unit at Kingston Hospital. Last year there were 13,555 patients seen in A&E, 3197 day case procedures done and nearly 57,000 outpatient appointments undertaken. Due to the increasing number of referrals and limited space, the REU services have been facing significant logistical difficulties and weekend clinics have been introduced to meet some capacity challenges.
The Royal Eye Unit team would like to be able to do more for our patients, but we need more space.
