Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
Over the past few years Kierans Climbers have taken on many challenges to raise funds for Keech Hospice. I have climbed the National 3 Peaks, walked from London to Brighton in 29 hours and have done lots of fundraising events.
In 2018 we will be doing various challenges, two of which I will be taking part in which are a 24hr , 5 mile lap running relay and the Yorkshire 3 Peaks walk in 12 hours.
But, my real personal challenge will be trekking across Transylvania for 6 days finishing with a community project which is still to be confirmed but likely to be painting an orphanage or school etc and that is apart from battling my fear of bats!!
WHY DO IT? I sometimes ask myself this when I should be quietly retired. Well it is all from the inspiration of a very special young man, my great nephew who went to play with the angels just before his 11th birthday in Oct 14.
Kieran passed away at Keech Hospice which is a wonderful place for adults and children with life limiting and terminal illnesses. It is the ONLY children's hospice serving Herts, Beds and Milton Keynes.
During Kieran's short life he had to face huge challenges with his many disabilities and was quite often very ill and in pain, but he always battled them and was such a cheeky happy boy. He was given the opportunity to attend Keech for respite stays. He so looked forward to his time at the Hospice and he particularly loved splashing around in the superb Hydrotherapy pool. All the staff are amazing caring for the patients 24/7 in the wards and in the day center. The Hospice offers many different services which are not only for the patient but are also available for he family as well.Music, art therapy, counselling, complementary therapies and many more. There is also a dedicated group for the siblings called 'Sparkles' which helps them through the difficulties of living with a sick member of the family, where they meet other children and do many things such as making memory boxes and help dealing with bereavement. Throughout Kieran's life and at the time of his very sad departure Keech were always there supporting both Kieran and our family and still continue with that support. Their door is always open!
The impact that Keech's support had on all the family and myself was immense, so much so that in November 2015 I joined Keech as a volunteer one day a week offering Complementary Therapies for the patients and carers. This helped me as I feel I am giving a tiny bit back.
But, to run a truly amazing hospice like Keech it takes £5.2 million p.a of which only 30% comes from the government etc, the remainder has to be raised by fund raising, donations . So, this is why I am taking on these challenges, in memory of Kieran to raise much needed funds for an incredible charity that gives so much.
So please help me to help them with your kind donation.
