Story
Magpie Dance is an innovative small charity that works with learning disabled people from age 11 upwards, including adults, for whom provision is often very limited. At the forefront of inclusive dance, Magpie aims to unlock individual potential and ability through its programmes of participation, performance and training. At its heart, Magpie is here to support learning disabled people and to help them gain the skills and confidence they need to take part in the life of the community . I have been a trustee with Magpie Dance, volunteering my time and skills for 3 years. By participating in this run I hope to raise awareness as well as money; and I hope you will support me in supporting Magpie. Magpie has been running for almost 30 years and on a termly basis, it delivers weekly dance sessions which include a youth group (11-25 years), an adult group and open adult community classes. It also offers performance and peer mentoring opportunities, as well as an in-depth Inclusive Dance Practice Training (IDPT) Scheme, and is building a national reputation for its work. One of Magpie's strategic aims is to expand its training provision. It already runs training programmes in the dance, healthcare and education sectors and is hoping to develop a properly resourced training wing which will bring in much-needed additional income. I am hoping that the funds I raise will help it to realise that ambition.
