Story

I can’t wait to take part in this 100km night ride around London, starting at 9.30pm on 5th May. I’ll be riding with a great bunch of girlfriends to raise awareness and funds for three female cancer charities: Breast Cancer Care, Ovarian Cancer Action and Jo’s Cervical Cancer Trust. It’s also a great way of getting more women cycling, which most of you will know is one of my favourite past times!

Cancer affects most of us at some point in our lives, either physically when it affects us directly, or emotionally when it affects our loved ones. It’s so important that we continue to support the research, diagnosis and treatments for this illness, and not forgetting the physical and psychological aftercare for those affected too.

There will be people you meet in your day to day lives that have already been through their own ordeals, maybe without you even knowing. Thanks to the awareness, donations and research from all the times before they’ve been able to get treated and carry on with their lives.

This event is particularly important to me since one of said girlfriends in the group (Jo) is currently undergoing treatment for Breast Cancer. She is a massive inspiration to us all for her strength and tenacity through this massive turbulent ordeal. She never stops smiling and laughing (and baking) despite feeling like hell from the side effects of the relentless chemo. She is an absolute trooper.

She has had her sights on completing this challenge from the start of her treatment, absolutely determined to get through the chemo and back on her bike to get the fitness back up ready just in time for the event.
It will be a pure pleasure to ride by her side supporting her and all the hundreds of other women participating for their own reasons.

⚠️Now for another incentive...for many years I’ve toyed with the idea of having all my hair chopped, I’ve never been brave enough to do it, what if this, what if that... People going through aggressive cancer treatment have NO choice in the matter. It can be truly devastating especially for women, even if they don’t show it.

So, actually, who gives a flying monkey ‘what if’, and in tribute to those that don’t have a choice, I am going for it, what better time!! No shaved head or mohawk (sorry), just cropped/pixie whatever comes 💇‍♀️. Whatever discount I can get from the hairdresser I will donate myself!

Oh, and did I say we will be wearing pink TuTu’s for the ride 😂 #noturningback

Any ££’s you can spare will be gratefully received, you never know who those pennies might just help 🙏🏼🌟🚴🏼‍♀️🌃 thank you! 🌷💖
