Trekking for Chester · 15 September 2019

September is Childhood Cancer Awareness Month. In the UK and Ireland, around five children are diagnosed with cancer each day - that's around 1820 each year. Help support our vital work.

Story

As many of you know my gorgeous, cheeky 2 year old grandson ‘Chester’ is currently undergoing 18 months of chemo for a spine / brain tumour.

Since his diagnosis I have become an ardent supporter of 2 charities, ‘The Brain Tumour Foundation’ & ‘The Children’s Cancer & Leukaemia Organization’

And so this September 2019 I’m trekking to the top of Mount Snowden to raise money for ‘The Children’s Cancer & Leukaemia Organization’

Since Chester’s diagnosis I have become aware that sadly Children’s cancer research funding falls well below adult cancer research funding & so I have decided I’d like to do as much as I can to raise both awareness in the lack of funding in this area and raise money for more research.

When a cancer diagnosis comes, particularly in a young child, the news is literally earth shattering. As a grandparent I have at times felt helpless, but by doing something like this I feel that I’m doing something positive, not just for Chester but for all future children who will be diagnosed with childhood cancers.

Chester has only just started his 18 month treatment plan, & so far he’s doing amazingly well. He’s still the cheeky, happy little boy he’s always been & his prognosis looks very positive.
