St.Stephen's Church is a quaint victorian Chapel of Ease. Before it was built Fradley villagers had to carry the coffins across the fields to Alrewas which proved to be a'coffin too far'. The church was built in 1861 and has been the centre of the village community ever since. During the second world war over 30 Australian and British airmen from RAF Lichfield were buried in the churchyard along with a German pilot. It possibly is the nearest 'war grave churchyard' to the National Memorial Arboretum at Alrewas.
In recent years the church has organised the annual village summer, christmas fairs and entertaining harvest suppers, supported the Fradley Community Choir, run the Wednesday Welcome and encouraged attendence at 'Messy Church' among the younger members of the community in addition to its usual duties.
It provides an enduring historical and stable back drop in a village that is constantly changing and having to redefine itself. Fradley would be a much poorer community without it.
