The Bone Cancer Research Trust is the leading charity dedicated to fighting primary bone cancer. Our mission is to save lives and improve outcomes for people affected by primary bone cancer through research, information, awareness and support.

Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page.

In April 2014 our seemingly healthy daughter, Helena, was diagnosed with osteosarcoma.  She was 12 1/2 yrs old.  Osteosarcoma is a primary bone cancer which affects mainly children and young adults between the ages of 10-24.  3 in 1,000,000 people are diagnosed with the disease every year.

Helena underwent brutal chemotherapy spending 146 days in hospital in the year to April 2015.  She has had her knee and upper tibia resected with reconstructive surgery to save her leg.  She has now finished treatment but is continuing with physio to build the strength in her leg.  She has been truly inspirational.

We have been blessed with amazing support and care from the medical team at the John Radcliffe Oxford.

Given the disease is rare there is little known about it and whilst surgical techniques have improved the chemo administered has not changed over the last 30 years.  Research is desperately needed to help improve the treatment for this aggressive and cruel disease.  Your support is most appreciated!
