Great North Run Solo · 28 June 2020

Get Kids Going! helps disabled children take part in sport by providing specialist sports wheelchairs, sports grants and year round support. They can then compete in marathons, triathlons, tennis, athletics, skiing, rugby, basketball etc. With your help, many could become Paralympic champions and world record holders.

Story

I was expecting to be in Newcastle on 13 September taking part in the Great North Run, my first competitive half-marathon. Sadly the 40th anniversary event has been cancelled because of COVID 19 so I will have to wait another year. ☹️

As an alternative to the real thing, the event organisers have come up with the Great North Run Solo. The challenge for me is to complete 40 runs and a total of 250 miles between Sunday 28 June (the date of the first Great North Run) and Sunday 13 September (the date of this year’s cancelled event).

I am raising money for the charity Get Kids Going who  provide access to sport for disabled children and young people through the provision of specialist wheelchairs and equipment. The charity also provides funding support for UK paralympians and sponsors the England wheelchair rugby team.
