Story
Hello everyone,
In April I'm running my first ever marathon (π¬) for Nerve Tumours UK, because they're a charity close to my heart.
They provide crucial support to people living with the Neurofibromatoses - the conditions that cause nerve tumours.
They are genetic conditions that can be passed on in families, but also about half of nerve tumour cases recorded have no previous family history of the condition. In other words, it can occur totally out of the blue.
This was the case for my sister Abi. Like around 1 in every 2,500 children in the UK, she was born with the gene that causes Neurofibromatosis Type 1 (NF1). Luckily, she has a pretty mild case which doesn't majorly impact her daily life.
Others aren't so lucky. Though the tumours are usually non-cancerous, they can cause severe bone development issues, eye problems and skin abnormalities. Alongside this, the Neurofibromatoses are also linked with learning difficulties and mental health issues. You can find more information on Nerve Tumours UK's website.
There are over 25,000 people in the UK living with the Neurofibromatoses. Please help me support them with my run! π
Anything you can spare would be hugely appreciated (and please do add gift aid) - thank you so much in advance! π«Ά
P.S. Training is well underway - track my progress below or by following me on Strava!
P.P.S. My amazing partner Jamie is also running London Marathon this year, for We Are With You, another brilliant cause. Find out more and please support her fundraising through her page:
