We maintain St Mary's Church Stogumber to be at the heart of the village

Story

  • Covid has had a huge impact on our communities, with many more people needing the support of our local Food Bank
  • Most of the fund-raising needed to maintain and run our village church has had to be cancelled, and it has a big deficit.
  • Litter defaces our beautiful parish, and we more we pick-up the less people will drop. Litter breeds litter.
  • I will walk 14 miles of Stogumber's lanes, picking-up all the litter that I can see.
  • Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving - they'll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they'll send your money directly to the charity

We are an inclusive and friendly church, welcoming to both villagers and visitors, no matter how strong or tentative your faith, whatever your background or circumstances, and whether you come often, sometimes or only occasionally. Our Church may be ancient, but it is accessible, and we will happily give any assistance that you need to join us for worship or social events, so do get in touch. We have a service most Sundays. Our style of worship is mostly traditional, using the ancient and beautiful Book of Common Prayer, but we are not stuffy. We also use the more modern Common Worship for alternate Sunday Communion services. Music is important in our worship, and we have a good organ, talented organist and accomplished choir of about a dozen, who lead the hymns, psalms, sung responses and anthems. But don't feel you have to be a wonderful singer - there are also many of us who are not! We have a peal of six bells and a band of enthusiastic ringers. After services, we gather at the back of the church for a chat over fresh coffee and biscuits (in the morning), sherry (after Evensong) and sometimes even mulled wine and mince pies at Christmas. Members of the congregation contribute to many aspects of parish life, including the Stogumber Good Neighbours scheme, village school, community lunches and village breakfasts - good food is a feature of Stogumber!
