Further Update:
It has now been officially confirmed by Guinness World Records – the school is the new holder of the world record for the longest ever marathon exercise/martial arts class!
We are still finalising the final figures for the amount raised for St Michael’s Hospice. However, we will have raised well over £12,000 – far in excess of the initial target of £5,000. Thank you to all those who have contributed so generously.
Any final donations would be greatly welcomed.
UPDATE: We have set a new world record! Having started as planned at we finished 29 hours later, adding 3 hours onto the existing record. Everything went as planned and we are now just waiting for Guinness World Record to confirm the official record. We will still be collecting funds for St Michael’s Hospice until the 10th May so we would be very grateful for any further donations
RECORD BREAKING EVENT FOR CHARITY… The aim Our aim is to raise £5,000 for St Michael’s Hospice and each student taking part has pledged to raise £250. Charitable work is only possible by the support of the public and anything you can donate is most gratefully received. We have specifically chosen a smaller charity as these tend to be the ones that receive the least amount of support. It is an especially hard time for all charities at the moment, and we believe in setting an example to the rest of the community by raising funds. The record For the event we will be attempting to set a world record for the longest continuous martial art tuition (over 26 hours). Our attempt has been verified by the Guinness World Records and will be subject to their stringent rules. Among these, participants will only be permitted to have a 5 minute break per hour. The eventThe event will take place in the on the 24th and 25th April 2010. It will start at on the 24th and finish after the Grading session on the 25th April (around 8).
More details about the school and the event can be found on our website: www.JulianHitchMASE.com
The Charity: St Michael’s Hospice The Hospice is a charity dedicated to providing specialist end of life care and support in Hastings and Rother to local people and their families, friends and carers. It offers a wide range of high quality services that are adapted to meet an individual's needs. These include not only in-patient care but also hands-on nursing support in someone's own home on a 24 hour basis. Day care, counselling and bereavement support are also available. Last year the hospice gave care to nearly 400 in-patients, provided over 3,500 hospice at home visits and over 3600 booked day therapy attendances. St Michael's Hospice is heavily dependent on the generosity of individuals, companies and local organisations. The Hospice is greatly appreciative of fundraising support, as less than 30% of its total funding comes from the NHS.
