We have a team of Barclays Poole employees taking part in a trek over the 3 highest peaks in mainland Spain on 16th-19th June. This is in aid of Julia's House, a childrens hospice in Poole where children with life limiting and sometimes terminal illnesses can come to enjoy their time as a child with specially trained carers and nurses.
Unfortunatley Julia's House only recievies 4% of their running costs from the government on an annual basis - this is why we have set ourselves a target of raising 20k over the course of the next 10 months. This will make a welcome impact to an amazing cause, helping children live in as much comfort as possible and giving them oppotunities to do as exciting things an able bodied child could do.
As well as the Spanish 3 Peaks Trek we will be hosting a variety of events ranging from sporting event sweepstakes, Beach Parties and raffles/auctions and after the Trek a post-Trek presentation/dinner-dance.
The Spanish3Peak Commitee is:
Mark Lines, Cathy Perry, James Peck, Danielle O'Nions, Andy Barrington, Tammy Huston, Laura Lavin, Dave Smith, Sam Brookes, Ross Carcary, Dan Wilson and Kyle O'Nions
We will be posting regular updates to our page and you will be able to follow our progess on twitter too!
I hope you can give generously and support any event you can in order for us to reach our target.
Update June 2nd: Time flies and the trek starts on Thursday 16th June, less than 2 weeks away now. The team can’t wait to get started and excitement and trepidation levels are rising!
Over the last two months the support that the team have received has been superb, especially from Barclays who have not only sponsored the event costs at over £6k but have also supported a specific fund raising event at Barclays House at which a further £5k was raised including £4£ matching.
The team have also been working hard to raise more money for Julia’s House to help us reach or even exceed our target. Events held include: cake stalls, raffles, sporting event sweepstakes, quizzes & fancy dress parties and we would like to thank everyone who has contributed so generously!
The teams’ training regime to ensure success in trekking up the 3 highest peaks in mainland Spain is well underway; long hikes, cycling, daily gym sessions, swimming etc. have all helped – next week Mark is even going to open the box his new boots came in!
Anyway, the next update will be after the trek, so wish us all well and for anyone who has not yet been able to donate, please consider what an excellent cause Julia’s House is and help us reach our target of £20k! Thank you again.
