Story

Over the years I've supported many charities and run many races, but this race and this charity are by far the most important, because they are significant beyond measure.

Since falling pregnant and giving birth to my beautiful daughter Amara in 2015, I have not even contemplated putting on my trainers to run.  Anyone who knows me well will know I have been an avid runner all my life but everything changed when I had my daughter and I experienced, by far, the most challenging period of my life.

I was very unhappy - unsupported, unheard, unloved  - used, belittled and made to feel inferior, all in front of my daughter - a poor display or how any man should treat the mother of their child. I slowly diminished and was desperate to get out of this trap. In 2021, I finally managed to break away, despite many attempts. I wasn't prepared for what was to come though - an abuse of the justice system, using my daughter against me - truly a vile act.  I am not sure how I got through 2022, because the lies and cruelty went to a whole new level.  I recognised this was abuse - abuse of power and control, a manipulator, a liar.  I made a call to Peterborough Women's Aid and was listened to, supported and given free counselling.  I learned a lot about narcissistic abuse and my story was heard and validated.  Almost 10 years of being made to feel “less than”, in order to elevate himself. Narcissistic abuse is real.

I'm starting to feel much more like Julie again... and so, on went the trainers and well, I'm trying my absolute best to get fit so I can complete the 13.1 miles in October, it's tough, I've been riddled with injury but I'm never more determined.  The bonus is, I get to run with my life-time wonderful supportive friend, Fayze Beecham.

Please please support me and PWA.  This charity is life changing and much needed in today's world.

Do not sit for years in silence - be brave and go speak to someone.

God Bless and be safe.
