Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
I was a teacher who ran, skied, biked, climbed and then suprise, suprise found I had an adenocarcinoma - basically lung cancer. Its a specific problem for women who have never smoked, fit, and over 50 .
Early identification and treatment is essential to have a good chance of still being able to do the stuff I enjoy. Like many things, however, the treatment process and research needs a big budget. I'm doing a sponsored ride as a bit of 'pay back' and to help ease the journey of others who will have to face some difficult treatment.
Starting at Aberdeen on 29th May 2011 my cycle route follows the northern part of the Sustrans North Sea Route from Aberdeen to John O'Groats then onto the Orkneys and finally the Shetland Islands covering 501 miles (800kms). I am hoping to ride up to 100km each day and thankfully will have company as my husband Dave is riding with me (he's carrying the gear!!). One day will be spent walking to the Old Man of Hoy.
Please give generously to support the facilities at St James' Institute of Oncology where I now work as a volunteer. They are really good at what they do - thats why I am still here with my family.........
