I signed up to run The 2024 Edinburgh Half Marathon in June 2023 on what should have been Dean's 21st Birthday. Dean was such a beautiful boy, with a heart of gold and a smile that would light up the darkest of rooms. Unfortunately, we all lost that gorgeous smile on the 11th of October 2022. Me and his brother's lives changed forever that day. Dean was always encouraging me to keep fit, and if I'm honest, I've let that slip in the last few years. But I'll be hearing Dean's wee voice in my ear the whole way round, seeing his smile in my memory bank and I'm sure he'll be watching over me, pushing me and encouraging me over that finish line.

If me sharing this can get just one person to reach out to SAMH for help and save them... Please don't mask it with a smile. The devastation of losing someone you love so much to suicide is unbearable at times. Never be afraid to ask the question "are you okay, like, are you really okay?" It might just save them.
