Lake District Challenge 2022 · 11 June 2022 to 12 June 2022 ·

It's exciting to see the completion of our new cancer centre but there's still more we can do to support cancer patients as they go through their treatment. The Christie charity provides enhanced services over and above what the NHS funds.

Story

Please consider sponsoring me on this challenge to walk 100 km! I start at 8:30am on Saturday 11th June in the Lake District and will be walking through the night until I hopefully finish within the 34 hour cut off time. I will also be climbing a total of 2500m of ascent - the equivalent of climbing Ben Nevis twice!

I have been preparing for months, often away from my friends and family, but this nothing compared to people facing the challenge of cancer. I, like many others have known family, friends or colleagues who have been touched by cancer and The Christie’s is a place that can provide hope and support. AstraZeneca works closely with The Christie’s at Macclesfield and will match all money I raise.

The £26 million development of a Christie treatment centre in Macclesfield, is equipped with state-of-the-art radiotherapy treatment machines, a CT scanner and 18 treatment chairs. It will provide 46,000 patient appointments and visits each year and is the third in a network of local Christie radiotherapy centres where patients can access Christie treatment closer to home.

Thanks to the donations of generous supporters, The Christie at Macclesfield will benefit more than 1,500 patients a year from Cheshire, the High Peak area of Derbyshire and parts of North Staffordshire.
