Story

We're taking part in the CRY Heart of London Bridges Walk 2012 and we would love your help.

Every week in the UK, at least 12 young people die suddenly from undiagnosed heart conditions. CRY works to raise awareness about these conditions that can lead to sudden death syndrome. We are taking part in the 8km walk to show support for CRY, remember young people, raise funds and help raise awareness of young sudden cardiac death.

Most of you will know why this cause is so close to our hearts (excuse the pun) and will understand why early screening is so important. For those of you that don't, Shannon has a condition called CPVT. This means that during exercise or stressful situations her heart develops a dangerous rhythm and causes her to collapse. This was misdiagnosed as epilepsy for several years. She has had 7 of these collapses to date and each one could have been fatal. She is now receiving treatment at The Royal Brompton Hospital. She is one of the lucky ones; other families have lost children where a simple screening programme may have saved them. Please dig deep and contribute what you can - and don't forget to tick the Gift Aid box!

Sponsorship and donations raised from the Bridges Walk will go towards funding CRY's Research Fellowship Programme, which is essential to the services that they offer. CRY currently funds 6 doctors, for 2 years, who specialise in the field of inherited cardiac conditions, sudden cardiac death, screening and sports cardiology. The research that they produce advances our understanding of conditions that can lead to young sudden cardiac death.

For every £1 donated:

- 50p will go towards fast track screening services for families who have been affected by young sudden cardiac death.

- 30p will go towards medical research into young sudden cardiac death.

- 20p will go towards our national screening programme for young people (aged 14-35)
