Virgin London Marathon 2013 · 21 April 2013 ·

The Mourne Mountain Rescue Team was established in 1962 and was the first mountain rescue team in Ireland. The Team is made up entirely of volunteers who turn out in all weather, day or night, 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. A voluntary SAR team that undertakes between 30-40 callouts per year.

Story

I am running the London Marathon in memory of my beautiful brother Ian who I loved dearly and I will miss every day for the rest of my life. Ian was lost to us in a helicopter crash in the Mourne Mountains.  The Mourne Mountain Rescue Team were at the site very quickly. They stayed overnight on the mountain and made sure that the victims were treated with dignity. They are all volunteers and are there to help anybody who gets lost on the mountains, is taken ill or has an accident.  They need our support to help them do their jobs. They are a wonderful bunch of people who give their time and energy to help others.  Please give a donation to this worthy cause. It will enable them to update equipment, to look after the various vehicles they use in their work and continue to help families like mine faced with tragedy and loss.

I am training as hard as I can.  It is a huge effort as I am not that talented at running and I am quite old, but I will make sure I get to the end of the course somehow.

Thank you so much, Julie x
