Story

Angela, Julie Cairney and I are completing the West Highland Way on the 5th - 11th May to raise money for The Beatson Oncology Centre in Glasgow, who are the UK's 2nd largest Cancer Centre.

On the 13th March last year my very dear friend Angela was diagnosed with kidney cancer.  We were all completely shocked by the dreadful news and 13 months later, I still find myself not believing this it actually happening.  Angela got her kidney and the tumour removed, but sadly the cancer returned and Angela has to get Chemotherapy for the rest of her life.

Angela is an inspiration and you would never know she is so ill.  Not only does she look terrific, she is very fit and the most positive person I know.  She never complains about her tragic misfortune.  She gets on with life and puts most of us to shame. Angela is back at the gym, fitness classes and running.  Many mornings she has burned more calories than I would burn in week, before most of us are even out our bed.

Recently we completed our first Munroe (Ben Lomond - see picture) in training for the WHW.  I couldn’t walk for 3 days and ached all over.  Angela didn’t have a sore muscle to be seen.

She had a very good diet before becoming ill,  but since her diagnosis she has completed so much research, she probably knows more that most dieticians.  She now has the best diet I have ever heard of and deprives her self of so much to compliment her treatment and help her immune system.

Over the past 13 months Angela has received a fantastic service from The Beatson with the wonderful care and support they provide.  Angela often talks about the great work they do and I didn’t realise that not only are they a support service but they are the leaders in researching Kidney cancer and many other cancers.

Therefore when Angela decided she wanted to give herself another huge challenge by completing the West Highland Way (as if Ben Lomond wasn’t enough), the Beatson was the obvious charity to raise money for.

Please donate what you can to this very worthy charity.  Even if you don’t know Angela, you may already have had a friend or family member who has been impacted by this horrible disease or will need the wonderful service The Beatson provides in the future.

Please send this link onto all your family and friends.

Thanks very much.
