Bespoke Health and our family & friends are aiming to raise around £25,000 for the Darby Rimmer MND Foundation by running or walking 100k in the month of May. Motor Neurone Disease (MND) is a neurological condition which affects the nerves in the brain and spinal cord. MND affects a person's arms and legs resulting in the inability to do basic things like wash, feed and dress yourself. It affects your ability to swallow which leads to the need of a feeding tube. It compromises your voice which means communicating is difficult. Breathing muscles are also affected, which leaves you relying on a ventilator to breathe. All these symptoms occur whilst your mind is unaffected. The average life expectancy is just 2-5 years from the onset of symptoms with 1/3 of people diagnosed dying within 1.5 - 2 years. There is no known cause of MND and there is no cure or effective treatment, it's always fatal. There is a serious lack of awareness and more importantly funding. The Darby Rimmer Foundation aims to raise awareness of the disease whilst fundraising to support those effected and fund much needed research. There is a lot of research going on and the signs are promising for treatments in the future.
