Christian's Against Poverty · 26 June 2013

At Christians Against Poverty, we equip local churches to support people facing debt and other financial challenges. We campaign for a redesigned society that works for everyone, including those on the lowest incomes. Find out more about us at capuk.org or follow us on social media.

Story

If you've found this page, you probably already know me but i'll introduce myself briefly. My name is Juliet, I love to bake and I'm doing an internship with CAP from September 2013 - August 2014.

As part of my internship, I have been set the challenge of raising the sum of £3000 for the charity. So i'll tell you a little bit about what they do.

"We are a national charity, working across the UK to lift people out of debt and poverty. We offer free debt counselling through a network of 233 centres based in local churches."

CAP was originally set up by John Kirkby in 1996 in his hometown of Bradford. It has grown a lot since then. CAP is still headed up by John Kirkby, but now has 233 centres around the country. CAP's long term goal is to open a CAP debt centre and run a CAP money course in every town and city across the UK so that anybody and everybody who needs help has access to it. The work done by CAP is crucial and life saving in more ways than one. Everyone who works for CAP is a Christian, and all clients (and creditors) are given the opportunity (should they wish it) to hear the Gospel and to learn more about God's eternal and amazing love!

In the words of John Kirkby himself:

"I am overwhelmed by what God has done. To see thousands of lives changed every year is truly wonderful. I do believe that God has given us a 21st Century answer to one of the most pressing social needs within society today. Jesus met people's needs with love, compassion and practical help. Our desire is to simply do the same and watch the miracles unfold. Please get involved in this amazing, God-inspired ministry"

Over the course of the year I will be organising many events to raise money for CAP (involving many, many cake sales i'm certain!) so they can continue their amazing work, and I would be over the moon if you could support us in any way possible. No amount is too small!

Thank you

Julez
