Story
I am taking part in the Royal Parks Half Marathon on 11th October 2026 to raise money for Alzheimer’s Research UK. My Mum is living with Alzheimer’s disease and vascular dementia.
She was an incredible person - active, sociable, intelligent and a wonderful Mum, Grandma and Auntie. Sadly, the disease has robbed her of her independence, memory, conversation and ability to connect with family and friends. My Dad is her full time carer and can no longer enjoy holidays, outings and shared experiences with his life partner.
As anyone who has experienced this cruel condition will know, the decline is slow and painful and is heartbreaking to witness. It’s too late for my Mum, but my sincere hope is that future generations will not have to suffer in the same way. Research into a cure is vital.
My Mum loved coming to watch me run since my first cross country race at the age of 10. I am nowhere near as fit as I was when she celebrated my best races and fastest times with me, but I will run these 13.1 miles for her - and everyone else whose lives have been changed by Alzheimer’s and forms of dementia. Please donate if you can. Thank you.
