The Rainforest Foundation UK aims to protect tropical rainforests by working with those who know the forest best – indigenous peoples and traditional forest dwellers. By supporting them, we're taking a major step forward in the battle to combat climate change.

Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

I hate running - it really is a pain (mentally and physically) but I am going to run 26 miles to raise money for a vital project and an important organisation - the Rainforest Foundation.

Why? Rainforests are amazing and have an astonishing array of unique wildlife. They they provide nearly a third of our oxygen and regulate our climate. They are the origins for more than 25% of our modern medicines (and we have only tested 1% of these amazing plants yet). Many foods we consume today such as nuts, bananas, coffee and spices, and industrial products such as rubber, resins and fibres, were originally found in tropical rainforests. They are home to many indigenous people who have lived in harmony with the rainforest for thousands of years

But they, and the wildlife and the indigenous people they contain and are in trouble - and so are we. Deforestation is in fact considered the second major driver of climate  change (more than the entire global transport sector), responsible for  18-25% of global annual carbon dioxide emissions. Imagine a rainforest the size of Britain being cut down for timber. That is precisely what’s being proposed right now for the Congo, home to the second largest rainforest in the world after the Amazon, to endangered wildlife and around 40 million people.

Please support me to support the Rainforest Foundation to help protect the worlds rainforests. Thank you.
