Nerve Tumours UK provides support and information, as well as campaigns and raises awareness on behalf of over 26,500 people in the UK who have NF, the group name for Neurofibromatosis Type 1 (NF1), NF2-related-Schwannomatosis (NF2) and Schwannomatosis (SWN).

Story

Justine had neurofibromatosis (NF1), and Doctors told us she’d live a short life. Thankfully Justine didn’t agree. She wasn’t going to let her headaches and poor eyesight stop her from leading an independent, fulfilled life.

With great courage and determination, she honed her sense of taste, and smell to be a brilliant baker, always arriving with a generous hamper of homemade goodies. She also developed her sewing skills making intricate, colourful tapestries despite being registered blind.

She always had a dog – a friend and walking companion. As her mobility deteriorated in her 30s, she got a tracker attachment for her wheelchair. She put her dog on three leads around her waist and continued her daily walks. In recent weeks Justine's dog, Scooby comforted her on the intensive care ward at Kings Hospital.

In Justine's memory, we're seeking to fund a part-time nurse for 2-3 years for people diagnosed with NF so that they too have the opportunity for a good life.  The cost is £10,000 a year.
