On the evening of September 12th we will be walking up Pen Y Fan with a few others to raise much needed funds for a charity called Made a Mark.

Made a Mark is a small and local charity who aims to provide support to children who are experiencing bereavement. The charity provide memory boxes which allow children to treasure memories and make new ones through books, journals, a pair of matching teddies as well as a kit to create handprints and take a lock of hair. Made a Mark now provides beautiful memory boxes filled with supportive materials to hospitals, hospices and schools. Each complete box costs the charity £50 to supply excluding delivery costs. Unfortunately this year COVID-19 has made fundraising really hard and for small charities like Made a Mark, this can be devastating and yet the boxes are needed more than ever. This year alone over 300 boxes have been sent out as demand has increased.

Made a Mark was set up 2 years ago in memory of Mark Knapp, a much loved husband and father of 2 young children, who died very suddenly and unexpectedly. Mark was on the committee at Tytherington Pre-School where his children attended. Whilst the care that Mark received in hospital was excellent there was sadly no support for the children. His wife found that over time collecting and storing items in a memory box helped prompt conversations with the children.
