Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page.

In the bleary eyed early hours of Friday the 14th September, a team of 16 intrepid (!) PwC Channel Island hikers will be taking on the challenge of scaling the tallest peaks of Scotland (Ben Nevis), England (Scafell Pike) and Wales (Snowdon).  Not content with the stand alone achievement of hiking up and down these fearsome peaks, the team are aiming to complete this challenge within a 24 hour period.

This does not simply mean allowing 8 hours per hike as we also need to factor in the time taken (via road) to travel the required 430 miles between each "base camp".

To put this in context the following summarises average times for each leg of the challenge for "a fit hiker taking on the three peaks challenge in the summer":

o Climbing and descending Ben Nevis - 5 - 6 hrs

o Driving time from Fort William to the Lake District - 6 - 6.5 hrs

o Climbing and descending Scafell Pike - 3.5 - 4.5 hrs

o Driving time from the Lake District to Pen-y-Pass - 4.5 - 5 hrs

o Climbing and descending Snowdon - 3 - 4 hrs

That is a typical range of 22 - 26 hrs.  Any number of factors could impact the time the team might take to complete including injuries, weather conditions, traffic!

The team will be hiking at night for one of the peaks and will only have the opportunity to catch-up on sleep during the bus journeys between peaks.

The team have been training hard for the last few months using Jersey's North Coast and Guernsey's South Coast as the main training ground and are now rearing to go.
