Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page.

Jyoti and I are both undertaking a tandem freefall skydive (attached to someone that knows what they are doing!) at Brackley Airfield in
Northamptonshire on 12 June 2022 to help raise money for the Jay C Trust.

The Jay C Trust is a new charity that has been setup in loving memory of Jyoti's brother Jayesh (Jay) who was tragically taken from his loved ones after being diagnosed with a
Glioblastoma Multiforme which is the most severe and aggressive type of brain tumour.

Glioblastoma (GBM) are malignant grade 4 tumours, are very fast growing and even when treated will come back. The cause of a GBM is not known and can impact hugely on the patient’s quality of life. The initial symptoms of a brain tumour will differ from person to person depending on where the tumour is located, on its size and how aggressive it is. Only 25% of glioblastoma patients survive more than one year and only 5% of patients survive more than five years.

The charity’s aims are to help raise awareness and to help families affected by GBM through support groups and providing assistance through means of a grant to help ease some of the financial burden that families are often faced with.

Following Jay's devastating diagnosis in the Summer of 2018 he soon underwent surgery to remove the tumour and this was followed by radiotherapy and chemotherapy and a whole raft of alternative therapies. For nine months, Jay’s treatment was going well, but then in May the following year he was told that the Cancer had returned and was spreading. Jay continued to fight hard and refused to give in. Despite this, his families and the doctor’s best efforts, Jay’s condition deteriorated and despite fighting every step of the way Jay finally succumbed to the GBM in October 2019 aged just 56.

Jay's fortitude in fighting his GBM truly was an inspiration to us. Not once did he complain or ask, ‘why me?’ – even whilst in hospital undergoing treatment, he would speak of his upset at seeing others undergoing their own treatment and say how he wished he could help them. That was Jay through and through. A kind, loving and selfless man who would do anything to help others.

After Jyoti and I first met back in 2006 I was naturally anxious about meeting the rest of her family and of course her big brother!  My worries were of course unfounded. From the very first time I met Jay he made me feel totally welcome and a part of the family. When I spoke of Jay to others in the years that followed, I would always say that you could never wish to meet a nicer human being than him and there is no doubt in my mind that this charity created in loving memory of Jay will be a fitting legacy to the kind and loving beautiful soul that Jay was.
