Story
In December 2019 my mum, having felt unwell for a few days, was diagnosed with Acute Promyelocytic Leukaemia (APML).
Within 36 hours of being admitted to hospital we were told that hospital staff "would make sure she is comfortable" for what would be a very short period of time. Thankfully the treatment started to work and, after 7 months of chemotherapy she has gone on to make a full recovery.
As a family, we will be forever thankful to the staff at the Ulster and City Hospital for their tireless work to help her return to health. Not only for their skills and expertise but the level of care and attention they offered throughout her stay in hospital.
3 people in Northern Ireland are diagnosed with blood cancer every day making it the 5th most common cancer in the UK by diagnosis and the 3rd biggest cancer killer. We we lucky.
LLNI operate with the main objective of improving survival rates for blood cancer patients by supporting the scientists and students researching these diseases in Northern Ireland.
I plan to run (propel myself) 5km a day throughout March 2021 to try and raise some money that will increase the chances of another family getting the outcome we were so grateful to have.
Any donation would be greatly appreciated. If you see me lying at the side of the road, dressed up as an athlete feel free to carry me any distance up to 5km!!
Thanks in advance for your support!
