Oxford Half Marathon 2022 · 16 October 2022 ·

At Alzheimer’s Society we’re working towards a world where dementia no longer devastates lives. We do this by giving help to those living with dementia today, and providing hope for the future by campaigning to make dementia the priority it should be and funding groundbreaking research.

Story

Hi all!

I woke up on my birthday this year and decided I was going to run for Alzheimers Society, this charity means a lot to me and to those closest to me.
You will all know I am NOT a runner, but I will be attempting to ‘jog’ a half marathon, there will be no ego here and no record breaking times (although it will hopefully be a PB for me as I’ve never run this far in my life!)

Alzheimer’s is such a cruel disease. I and many others have watched it strip loved ones of their independence, their mind, their personality and their most treasured memories.
Once it is there, there is no return. There’s no cure and no rhyme or reason to how it will play out, you just have to wait and make the most of the time you have. To hold on to times gone by and to the precious moments you get together. An incredibly unsettling unknown for those diagnosed and their loved ones.

I’m raising money for this brilliant charity and to pay tribute to my Grampy.

A doting, proud and loving grandfather who I have many fond memories with. Walking packs (and I mean packs!) of the neighbourhood dogs over the woods with him will forever be my favourite. Shoulder rides were mandatory when my little legs couldn’t keep up and one boiled sweet half way round ‘to keep my energy up’, maybe two if I could persuade him!

I’m also running for Tom’s Granny and her family, they’ve seen first hand what Alzheimer’s can do and I know how incredibly difficult it can be to navigate unchartered waters with the understanding and compassion that people with Alzheimers will need when their disease progresses.

I hope that with time and funds that Alzheimer’s Society will continue to find ways of helping people diagnosed with Alzheimer’s and also for those caring for them.

I’m so lucky to be left with many wonderful memories and I hope that I can raise some money and awareness whilst feeling the fear and doing it anyway!!!

Any donations will be appreciated!

Love Krystie x
