MARCH MISTERY MATCH · 20 February 2015

EMERGENCY provides free, high-quality care to people affected by conflict and poverty. We do this in a sustainable way: building healthcare facilities, training local personnel, and conducting search and rescue missions in the Mediterranean Sea. More information at: www.emergencyuk.org

Story

From 1st-31st March 2015 EMERGENCY UK is fundraising to buy two new anaesthetic machines for our surgical centre in Kabul, Afghanistan.
A mystery donor has agreed to match EVERY donation up to the total of £10,000. The total cost of the machines is approximately £20,000.

Falling media coverage, troop withdrawals — you could be forgiven for believing that the conflict in Afghanistan is over. But the war rages on, and civilians are still paying the highest price, with our hospital in Kabul running at full capacity.

2014 was deadliest year for Afghan civilian casualties, with over 10,500 war related injuries recorded.

This represents an almost 25% increase on the fatalities recorded in 2013. Many of these casualties are young children. The anesthesia system used in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) needs replacing and a private donor has offered to match all donations up to £10,000 for this purpose, towards the purchase of new equipment that would cost approximately £20,000. This is the cost of another little, but significant, step in bringing high quality health care to Afghanistan.

In addition, the name of everyone who donates will be entered in to a prize draw to win a print of one of Emergency UK trustee and world renowned photographer Giles Duley’s (http://gilesduley.com/) Afghanistan photographs.

You can also donate via text, by sending 'KABU15' and your donation in pounds to 70070, e.g. 'KABU15 £10'

Please join the campaign, donate generously and spread the word to all your friends.
