Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

I am raising money for Cancer Research , one of the largest cancer charities in the . Very few of us will be fortunate enough to go through life without being close to someone who suffers from one form of cancer or another, or  suffers from it ourselves. My father Tim died from cancer so I chose Cancer Research as my charity of choice to raise money for.

I am competing in the Ironman European Championships which will be held on the 4th July 2010. This is a Triathlon that consists of a 2.4 mile swim, 112 mile bike ride and lastly a marathon. It is well known as being the toughest one day race in the world and competitors may take up to 15 hours to complete it. As warm up races I am also doing the Lisbon International Triathlon (Half Ironman Distance) on the 24th April 2010 and Windsor Triathlon on the 13th June 2010.

I know a lot of you who know me know that I do these sorts of events anyway, and I have done an Ironman before. Its not the competition itself I'd like support for (But...if anyone wants to come along and cheer, wish me luck or pick me up off the finish line, that'd be hugely appreciated too!). Its the intense training day in and day out that I've been doing for seven months now, devoting most of my time to training or recovering and will keep doing until July. The training doesn't stop when its dark, wet, freezing cold or even when the whole country shuts down because of heavy snow! The training does start very early on many occasions, and also goes on for many hours sometimes. I'd like to be sponsored for the hard work and having to give up beer!!! The support from my friends and colleagues has been fantastic and I couldn't thank them enough...now I'd like to raise money for a really worthwhile charity.

Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving – they’ll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they’ll send your money directly to the charity and make sure Gift Aid is reclaimed on every eligible donation by a taxpayer. So it’s the most efficient way to donate - I raise more, whilst saving time and cutting costs for the charity.

So please dig deep and donate now. I'll keep my page updated with how my training is going and how I'm doing...I'll also try upload a few photo's from time to time!

UPDATE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!UPDATE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!UPDATE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!UPDATE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Thank you to all those who have donated so far and especially for your good luck messages!!!

Lisbon Middle Distance Tri - I had a great race. My last PB over this disatnce was 5hrs30min. The field was particularily strong due to it being the Portuguese National Champs and I finished in 4hrs19mins coming 37th overall and 4th in my agegroup. Out of all the UK competitors, I was the 2nd Male. A total schock and didn't believe the time over the finishing gantry!!! The main thing is I enjoyed it thoroughly and loved every minute of the race and never suffered too much :-)

Windsor Olympic Triathlon - Another PB by 6 mins coming in at 2hrs14mins made me very happy indeed. Was a bit down about my run time but was soon cheered up by some good friends...a PB is a PB :-) Main thing was that so close to Germany everything felt good and there were no issues. Time to look forward and concentrate on the big race.

Two PB's and great races so far....now time for a 3rd!!!!!!!!
