We raise funds for cancer care in Pakistan to help save thousands of lives

Story

UPDATE - 29 May 2019 (23 Ramadan 1441)

Thanks to your generous support last year, we were able to raise the necessary £10k to pay for the treatment of Rana Zaman (now 4 yo), he has had his 6th successful round of chemo and responding very well to treatment.

We are still raising funds (£9.5k) for Usmania Bibi and hope that you will continue to support to help reach this target.

In two months, we will be embarking on another high altitude challenge, this time taking us to the Karakoram mountain range in a bid to raise more awareness and funds for the cancer hospitals. This challenge will culminate in a visit of the Lahore Shaukat Khanum Hospital and we hope to provide you all with a further update from this visit in due course.

Thank you again for your generosity and continued support.

UPDATE - 12 October 2018 (3 Safar 1440)

اَلسَلامُ عَلَيْكُم وَرَحْمَةُ اَللهِ وَبَرَكاتُهُ

Halima and I are in Dingboche ... less than 20km and 2 days away from Everest base camp and Kala Patthar

& two-thirds of way or £7,000 left to help Usmania Bibi

To see some of beautiful sights we are passing each day, IKCA are uploading photos regularly on the Facebook page @ImranKhanCancerAppealUK

We have both been ill 🤒... and we keep reminding each other to thank our donors by doing everything we can to reach our goal. We spent three days in Wales training, left our families for over two weeks & bought lots of essential equipment to get here. Once here we are coping without basics of hot water or our own electricity, using outdoor hole-in-ground toilets & we are walking between 7:30am to 4:30pm most days.

Even the Sherpas are warning us they don’t sleep at these 5,000m-plus altitudes without waking up suddenly due breathlessness at altitude we are about to ascend to ...

& we are both praying that Rabbuna SWT protects us, our family, friends & kind donors from ever having to experience how frightened Usmania Bibi must be feeling.

We are all very worried about every breath here. And  yet Usmania Bibi will be thinking about how many she has left with her children and family if she does not get the necessary cancer treatment. So thank you to those who have already donated & thanks also to those who help us raise the remaining c£7,000 to help Usmania Bibi

BRIEF HISTORY

Usmania Bibi is 22 years
Diagnosed with Colorectal Cancer in August, 2018
Twenty-two year old Usmania Bibi finds her solace in the company of her two adorable little children. She relishes her role as a mother and is thankful to the Almighty Allah for blessing her with an angelic daughter and a bouncing son. Adil Zaman, Usmania’s husband, is a daily wager in Swabi who strives to ensure food and shelter for his family day-in and day-out. Usmania’s cancer diagnosis was a bolt out of the blue for this happy little family unit. Her presence has been an animating factor for the family, both as a mother and a wife. It was, therefore, unthinkable for her children and husband to live a life without her. Worse, Adil’s paltry income was not enough to afford expensive life-saving cancer treatment for his beloved wife.
However, clouds of despair were replaced with rays of hope when they learnt that Shaukat Khanum Memorial Cancer Hospital will provide the best possible opportunity for Usmania to defeat cancer, regardless of her ability to pay. She is now prepared to tolerate the impending journey of cancer treatment so as to usher herself in a future brimming with life and prosperity, both for herself and for her family.

UPDATE- 23 August 2018  (12 Dhu'l Hijjah 1439)

Salaam all,

We are now 6 weeks from departure and now have 2 big updates to share with you!

1) An update on our 4-year old patient, Rana Zaman (below)

  • 2) A new patient profile has been requested for us to raise funds for and since you guys were so generous and we've already surpassed our target for Rana, we already have a headstart for this patient - a young lady (22) suffering from colorectal cancer, Usmania Bibi needs us to raise £9,500 for her. With your support, we have already raised £2,304 so we just need to raise a further £7,196 with your support.

SIX WEEKS TO GO - WE CAN DO THIS!

Please dig deep and thank you so much for your generosity so far!

JazakAllah Khayr.

Update on Rana Zaman (August, 2018)

Zaman now looks altogether different from his 2017 version, when he reported to the Walk-in Clinic of Shaukat Khanum Memorial Cancer Hospital and Research Centre. Back then, he was a frail child who was visibly traumatised by the series of events that brought him to the Hospital as a cancer patient. However, he was surely aware that this was his chance to get out of the quagmire of uncertainty by giving the toughest fight to cancer. And so far, the way he availed this opportunity to defeat cancer has been remarkable. During initial stages of cancer treatment, he would suffer from intermittent fever every now and then; his digestive system became abnormal; and his body weight was substantially reduced. However, as his father recounts those tough days, Zaman never caved in to circumstances; he braved all the pain and difficulties with a smile on his face.

Today, Zaman is a sturdy four year old boy who, like other children of his age, spends a lot of time playing games with his siblings. The treatment process has made him a sharp boy. He has developed a unique ability to observe things with a different perspective, which would surly help him climb up the educational ladder in an
impressive manner. Zaman’s active cancer treatment continues at SKMCH&RC with his upcoming appointment being scheduled
on August 7, 2018.

It is thanks to donations from YOU that his recovery has been possible.

UPDATE - 18 JUNE 2018 (4 Shawwal 1439)

Alhamdulillah, it is with great joy with which I write today's update.

On the last night of Ramadan - after adding offline donations of £4,167 following some huge donations from our beloved American counterparts!! - we passed our £10k target! All of this was achieved inside the blessed month of Ramadan.

Family, friends and complete strangers have all come together to donate money to pay for the treatment of this poor boy. I cannot quite find the words to convey the feeling of utter delight and bewilderment at this feat.

All praise is to God without whom your open hearts and hands would not be able to redistribute the wealth where it is needed. May He keep your hands filled and your heart strings pulled in the direction where your hand's liquid gold needs to flow. Ameen.

The next stage is rather more hilarious. It would appear we now have to train for Everest?!

I will update on Zaman's medical progress and our trek in the coming months in'sha'Allah (God willing)

In the meantime, keep Zaman and us in your prayers.

JazakAllah Khayr (May God reward you with goodness)

Halima & Qasim

UPDATE - 17 MAY 2018 (1 RAMADAN 1439)

Salaam All family, friends, strangers with HUGE hearts!

The blessed month is upon us and we are reminded of this ayah:

مَنْ ذَا الَّذِي يُقْرِضُ اللَّهَ قَرْضًا حَسَنًا فَيُضَاعِفَهُ لَهُ وَلَهُ أَجْرٌ كَرِيمٌ

Who is it that would loan Allah a goodly loan so He will multiply it for him and he will have a noble reward? [Quran 57:11]

HUGE UPDATE!!!!

We have now been requested by SHAUKAT KHANUM MEMORIAL HOSPITAL (registered charity name in U.K.- IKCA) to raise funds specifically for an infant cancer patient.

Because of this, we have increased our target from £6,000 to £10,000 - ALL FUNDS GO TO PATIENT

Giving Zakat (charity) is obligatory in Islam and it is a huge responsibility to ensure our charitable deeds are researched and considered properly. To that end please ensure you read all of the below to purify your niyah (intention) of giving.

Permission and request from the little boys family and the hospital has released the following details:

Rana Zaman Nasir

Zaman is a four year old boy from Punjab’s Lodhran district who loves to ride his tricycle around the house. He is the youngest among five siblings including two sisters and three brothers, and is equally adored by every single one of them. Nasir Ali, Zaman’s father, drives a rickshaw in Lodhran which remains the sole source of income for the entire family. He was devastated when little Zaman was diagnosed with cancer just before his enrollment in school. However, a ray of hope was rekindled in his heart when he learnt that Shaukat Khanum Memorial Cancer Hospital and Research Centre will provide the best possible opportunity to treat Zaman’s cancer, regardless of its affordability. Nasir’s dream is to make Zaman a doctor; and to realize this dream, he prays for the day Zaman gets rid of cancer and goes back to school.

Clinical Information
Rana Zaman Nasir is a three-year old boy (now 4) who presented to the Shaukat Khanum Walk-In-Clinic Multan on May 23, 2017 with complaint of fever and pallor, progressively associated with increased weakness for a few months. He had also started passing blood with stools. He was seen at a local hospital where his complete blood tests reported increased number of white blood cells for which his bone marrow biopsy was done at the same local hospital. The biopsy report raised suspicion of Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia (a type of blood cancer). At Shaukat Khanum Memorial Cancer Hospital and Research Centre, his detailed examination and relevant investigations including complete blood count along with flow cytometry reconfirmed the diagnosis of Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia. His chemotherapy started with a long regimen of chemotherapy, first part of which has been started on May 26, 2017. He is receiving chemotherapy under close monitoring and is tolerating it well.

Please donate generously!! Any surplus donations above £10k will go towards another patient. Help us save a life and recall Allah’s words:

“AND WHOEVER SAVES ONE (life) IT WILL BE AS IF HE SAVED ALL OF MANKIND” [Qur’an 5:32]

Assalaam u Alaykum

Date of page opening: 15.03.18

Dear all

SO WHY ARE WE DOING THIS???

1)  MAIN REASON - ACTIVELY participating in charity also evokes a feeling of compassion for others and awakens a sense of gratitude for our own physical health.

With this Everest challenge, we will be carrying a heavy backpack with supplies, climbing rocky terrains and pushing our lungs to the limit - altitude sickness creeps in anywhere above 2,400m and since we’re going up to around 5,600m we’ll certainly experience some of the effects of thin air!

This will be a chance to experience some physically demanding conditions that may give us a glimpse of one iota of what a cancer sufferer may face; when we feel the nausea and altitude sickness that comes with thin air on Everest, we will be reminded of the incredibly harder battle of chemotherapy and those who bravely scale life’s much harder heights.

In remembering them, we hope we will all be motivated to push on to achieve this milestone in order to raise awareness and funds for those in need!

2) Raising funds for the charity - there’s about 20 volunteers on this challenge and collectively we’ve committed to raise a minimum of £3,000 each (though we hope you will all help us to surpass this!!) This means that collectively we are hoping to raise a minimum of £60,000 though we are competing with each other to also see who raises the most - PLEASE SHOW YOUR GENEROSITY AND HELP US WIN!

We are hoping to climb up to Everest base camp later this year. October 2018 in’sha’Allah!

Training has begun - the lingering winter effects that sweep across England are welcome visitors for our training!

Quick Everest facts:

1) Everest summit is 8,848m and base camp sits at 5,380m so we are climbing about 60% of the way up

2) Kala Patthar summit is 5,643m and in’sha’Allah we will summit here to see the best views offered of Everest.

3) Altitude sickness creeps in anywhere above 2,400m so this is going to be physically the most taxing challenge we may ever endure

Thank you all for reading, please remember us volunteers and the patients in IKCA hospitals in your prayers as well as your wallets, pockets and cheque books!!

JazakAllah Khair ♥️
