Animal Free Research UK is a pioneering medical research charity that funds and promotes the development of techniques to replace the use of animals in research.

Story

Our little Kale died yesterday. Those of you who know us well, will know how much Kale and Kiba meant to us. Not only did they complete our little family, but they were rescued lab rats who showed us how much personality and intelligence these creatures have. For our wedding we are asking for donations instead of gifts, to a very important charity - Animal Free Research UK. We planned to only ask on the wedding day, but Kale's death has prompted us to extend it further.

We're not ones to overshare, but this is something we deeply care about. And maybe it will make losing the best companion animals a little easier. If you couldn't make the wedding, saw how happy these rats made us, or even are just taking pity because Roisin's face has swollen up from all the tears!!! Please donate and help us make sure no other Kales and Kibas will be tested on.

Many people think animals testing is necessary and impossible to prevent as it's so embedded into research. But ethical science is a real alternative. Kiba was shy, soft, preferred sweet food and liked chewing wires. Kale loved human company, was gentle and caring, loved eating oats but also had a soft spot for noodles. They didn't deserve to suffer.

Thank you, from Ben & Roisin.

We’re redefining research, investing in scientists so they can make the breakthroughs that push medicine forward without the use of animals.Since 1970, we have awarded grants to over 200 projects. These include research into cancer, Alzheimer’s disease, asthma, diabetes, kidney, heart and liver disease, to name only a few. With your amazing support, we can advance human health and end the use of animals in medical research!
