Thanks for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page.
We are 17 friends who are entirely self-funding our exciting trek to Kanchenjunga north and south base camps. We walk through one of the poorest areas of Nepal and we want to make a significant positive contribution to the local people. Many of the schools in the area do not have running drinking water. There is clear evidence that clean drinking water at school makes a massive difference both to children's health and to their learning progress. We are raising funds to buy the materials the villages can't afford (pipes, taps, etc.) to bring water from the nearest spring. The villagers take ownership of the project by providing the labour to bury the pipe (so it does not freeze or get damaged) and construct all the other infrastructure. When local people actively participate in a project from the start, experience shows it will be a source of village pride and will be looked after in the future by the community. We are aiming to buy over 10 kilometres of pipe, all the taps, fittings, cement and other materials and pay for it to be transported up to the villages. If we meet our target we will supply fresh running drinking water to seven village schools in the poorest parts of eastern Nepal.
