Story
Matt, my son, has received excellent treatment and care from many departments under The Nottingham University Hospitals Trust since his first diagnosis in 2006, and I would like to do something to help other children on their journeys in the future. After asking Matt which of the available fundraising areas would have helped him most, he chose the iMRI scsnner, as this can be such a traumatic experience for a child, so to have a dedicated team of staff and a specialised unit would make such a difference. Essentially earlier diagnosis would lead to a greater chance of fuller recovery.
Matt was initially diagnosed with a spinal tumour, which was surgically removed, after which he had to learn to walk again and was reliant on a wheelchair for some time. Following this he had to have further radiotherapy when the tumour regrew in his spine and later when there was tumour growth in his brain. We are incredibly fortunate that he has been able to make a full recovery and, at the age of 21, now has passed his car and bike tests, and is studying Physics at Nottingham University. Later this year he has his last scan and, if that is all clear, he will be officially discharged.
None of this would have been possible without the care and dedication he has received. Please donate so that there can be more success stories like ours.
