Colour Obstacle Rush · 4 June 2022

Myeloma UK is the only organisation in the UK dealing exclusively with myeloma. We make it possible to live longer and better lives with myeloma. Through research and treatments, we find new ways to a cure. Together, we are the cure.

Story

Our beautiful sister and mum, Maria Opuni is battling Multiple Myeloma. This horrible disease is a rare form of blood cancer that sits in the bone marrow, causing malignant cells to grow, crowding out healthy blood cells and causing catastrophic damage.

Since her symptoms first appeared in 2018, Maria has been through spinal cord surgery to remove a plasmacytoma (a mass caused by the myeloma), radiotherapy, chemo therapy and a stem cell transplant. She is now on maintenance chemotherapy aimed at holding the worst effects at bay and giving her as much life as possible. Her current treatment, which is the best available at the moment, has a range of nasty side effects which are an ongoing reminder of the battle that Maria is fighting every single day, just to stay alive.

There is currently no cure for Multiple Myeloma.

Our gorgeous Maria is only 48 years old.

The good news is that Myeloma UK are working constantly towards the ultimate goal of finding a cure; in the meantime they offer a range of services to support Myeloma patients on their journey.

So, we have decided to drag ourselves off our sofas, go get messy and make absolute fools of ourselves completing the Colour Obstacle Rush on 4th June 2022 at Rother Valley Country Park, in the hope that you will throw the price of a drink our way. All donations will go straight to this important and little known charity. Those of you that know us will appreciate that this is also an opportunity to chuckle at us tackling what (to some of our group at least) seems like a major sporting event.

We promise there will be lots of humiliating photos shared after the event!
