Story
Santa is my foster dog who was rescued by Blind Dog Rescue UK. Santa was found close to death in the middle of a busy road in Romania. He was blind and subsequently had almost starved to death whilst stumbling hopelessly around trying to find food and shelter. We will never know how he managed to survive on the streets. That, in itself is a miracle. BDRUK raised the funds to get him off the streets of Romania and transport him to safety in the UK. (He arrived late on Christmas eve....hence the name Santa!) They funded his travel, vet fees and passport costs. Santa was thought to be very elderly when originally found and was given only months (possibly weeks) to live as his condition was so bad. Since arriving at my home he has thrived on quality food, warmth, safety and an abundance of love. He has shed years as he's gained weight and we are now thinking he may be middle aged with a number of happy years ahead of him. He has, however, a number of health issues we need to help him with if he is to be given this chance of life. Although Santa is completely blind, it has become apparent he is also in pain and the sad decision has been made to remove one of his eyes. At the same time, he will also be x-rayed and investigations be made into his breathlessness and cough. BDRUK has agreed to these costs (we will also be contributing) but this is a large amount of money for them to pay (£1,762.00) As so many people have been touched by Santa's story since he arrived, I'm hoping they can spare the price of a cup of coffee so his costs are covered...and BDRUK can use their money to rescue more dogs instead. I'm not asking for much....I know all my caring friends regularly give to great causes all the time and I really hate asking. But just the cost of a slice of cake (or bottle of wine!!) soon adds up and would make all the difference.
Santa's operation is scheduled for a week today (June 5th) with Arun Veterinary Group in Storrington, UK. I will, of course, be posting regular updates of his results and recovery.
Thanking my compassionate friends in advance X X X
