Our Story.

Bobby was born along with his identical twin brother Sid 19/01/15 at 28weeks gestation. The boys developed twin to twin transfusion which only occurs in identical twins that share a placenta, if detected early laser treatment can be performed to even out the blood supply but late detection meant our only option was an emergency c section to deliver the boys.

Twin to twin transfusion is a serious condition that affects the blood flow between the twins,  this imbalance results in one twin being overloaded with blood (recepiant) and the other twin being deprived of blood (Donor) in our case Bobby was the recepiant twin who received an excessive amount of blood, making it basically impossible for Bobby to circulate. This meant both boys were not only being born very premature but also sick, as a result of the TTTS. Unfortunately this was to be a big life changer for our family.

We lost our darling son Sid after 11days, this was absolutely devastating and a life experience I never thought I would have to endure.

Bobby spent 11weeks in neo natal which  I spent by his side, he faced many challenges and set backs.  It was during his stay when we  were told that Bobby had suffered extensive damage to his brain due to the excessive amount and thick concentration which left Bobby unable to circulate it efficiently,  resulting in periventricular leukalacia. This was a massive shock and hearing those words "Bobby will have cerebral palsy" will be something I will never forget.

We brought Bobby home with so many uncertainties to how Bobby would be affected and what life would have in store for us as a family.

Bobby has had a very tough journey through his first two years of life, with many hospital admissions.  Bobby has chronic lung diesease, suffers from severe reflux,  chronic vomiting, which led to him having to have a peg tube fitted so I could feed him a blended diet directly into his tummy, epilepsy, cortical visual impairment and has spastic quadriplegia cerebral palsy.

This is where you the reader comes in. Bobby started to attend a wonderful school "The Buddy Bear Trust" based in Dungannon. Buddy Bear give real hope to parents like ourselves to help children with motor disabilities and cerebral palsy.  They get absolutely no funding from the NI Government and rely solely on local fundraising. They help children learn their way to independence through an innovative programme of conductive education that combines learning with rehabilitation. Their dedication to local children over the last 20years saw them win a Pride of Britain and a Spirit of Northan Ireland Award in 2016. I personally don't no where we would be without Buddy bear and feel very lucky to have such a great team of dedicated staff working with Bobby.

This is why I would like to raise money with your help to say thank you to Buddy Bear and to help keep the school open.

Despite Bobby's problems Bobby is a happy bright child who loves a bit of craic and enjoys playing  with his older sister Lila and his younger brother Sandy.

Thank you for taking the time to read our story.
